More help needed as flood fight continues in Scott County

BLUFFS, Ill. (WGEM) -

The battle against the rising Illinois River continues in Pike and Scott Counties and more volunteers are needed to help sandbag.

At the Bloomfield operation in Scott County on Thursday, most workers were from the prison work camps.

In Pike County, sandbaggers are asked to go to the junction of County Roads 5 and 21, about five miles east of Perry. Thousands more sandbags are needed to reinforce levees before the near-record crest this weekend.

The 15 mile levee system in Scott County protects more than just farmland.

"20 to 25 residences in the district. We've got I-72 which we need to keep open. And South Jacksonville Water Supply is in this district," said Randy Dolen, Scott County Levee Drainage District Commissioner.

The recently reopened Evandy's Boatel in Naples is now surrounded by water. Equipment on the lower level has already been moved.
