Hundreds attend "Leadership Day" at Washington Elementary

How can you build tomorrow's leaders? Many area schools are taking a closer look at the success of a program at Quincy's Washington Elementary.

Today more than 100 guests attended "Leadership Day" at Washington Elementary.

Visitors and educators were invited to see how the Covey Habits make Washington Elementary more unified and See first hand how the habits help the students behavior and learning.

School officials say the students start learning these habits in kindergarten and they can see them using the habits everyday.

"Today a little girl was helping a little boy tie his shoe. That is the expectation that's a pro active choice. You help one another, you're kind to one another, you seek first to understand," said Jeanne Smith, a paraeducator at Washington Elementary.

Guests were able to enjoy a light breakfast, a PAWS pride assembly, and a video story. And the event concluded with the entire student body singing "I'd Rather Be Happy".
