Dog stops delivery of mail in Hannibal neighborhood

The mail hasn't been delivered to one Hannibal neighborhood for nearly two weeks, because of a dog.

Post Office Supervisor Eric Smith says Moose, a pitbull owned by David and Christie Taylor, is a safety concern for his carriers.

After repeated requests to keep Moose inside while mail is being delivered, Smith says they had to stop delivery to the entire 500 block of College Street.

Taylor says it's unfair to punish his neighbors when his dog isn't a danger to anyone.

"I'll go down and get a post office box if I have to and pick it up there for the rest of my life at the post office but Moose has never attacked anybody in his life," said David Taylor.

Postal officials say residents on the block are frustrated but understand why the post office made the decision. No word yet on if and when mail delivery will be restored to the area.
