German world travelers make a stop in the Tri-States

Traveling the world is something a lot of us would love to do. One German couple is doing just that, in an all wheel motorhome.

Mr. and Mrs. Peitsmeier stayed the night at Wakonda State Park near LaGrange last night.

They started their journey in 2004, going from Europe to Central Asia. Then they shipped the motorhome to South America and started heading north.

Mr. Peitsmeier says his favorite country has been Ecuador, but says the people of the Tri-States have been welcoming.

"The Midwest is a nice area. But now it's a little bit cold. I hope it goes up to warmer weather. Nice, nice people. Very nice people," said Karl Peitsmeier.

The inside of their motorhome includes a shower, restroom, living area, and kitchen. The couple says it has 250 thousand kilometers on the odometer, which is about 155-thousand miles.

But, Peitsmeier says everyone they have met in the U.S. has been very welcoming.

"I get in Arizona a flat tire. And the policeman helps us to chance the tire. One, one tire weighs 350 pounds," said Peitsmeier.
