QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Quincy Notre Dame standout running back and linebacker Connor Obert is now a college football player.

Obert signed his national letter of intent with St. Ambrose on Friday afternoon after what was a character-testing senior season, including a concussion, which put him on the sidelines for a few weeks.

Obert is hopeful the injury is a thing of the past.

"I want to stay tough and stay healthy," Obert told WGEM Sports.

"I also want to improve on every aspect I can. It's a great step. I'm glad I'm done with it of course because I've had a lot of thinking to do on deciding what college (I would attend). I'm just looking forward to getting to that next level."

QND head coach Bill Connell says Obert deserves a chance to play another four years.

"He's going to continue to get stronger," Bill Connell explained.

"The great thing about it he's got a good head on his shoulders that allows him to make good decisions and puts himself into position to make plays."

Obert's versatility should make him an even bigger weapon in college.

He can play several positions and says he's willing to play anywhere in order to get on the field.
