Agriculture officials urging people to protect Ash trees
QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -
Agriculture officials are warning those with Ash Trees to get them treated before it's too late. Emerald Ash Borers have killed Ash Trees in 18 states and because of how close some areas are, it's only a matter of time before they're in the Tri-State Area. Terstriep Tree Services President Bob Terstriep said Ash Trees make up about 20% of all the trees that are in the Quincy area and if nothing is done, it'll greatly impact the city.
"This thing is that bad they're encouraging municipalities in small cities to start treating now so that when these trees die they won't have 6 to 800 trees to remove at once," Terstriep said.
Terstriep said removing and replacing a dead tree can cost thousands of dollars.
