Admiral Coontz Armory back open in Hannibal after flooding

Nearly three weeks after it was first flooded, the Admiral Coontz Armory in Hannibal is back open.

Last week, crews cleared out tons of mud with firehoses.

Hannibal Parks and Rec Assistant Supervisor for Promotion and Planning Mary Lynne Richards says they don't sandbag around the facility because the water comes from underneath the building.

They recently made some improvements to the building by moving electrical units upstairs and upgrading the kitchen.

"Flood proof as possible. It was pretty easy to evacuate. We moved all the archery targets out and tables and chairs. But this building is able to go through flooding pretty easily," said Richards.

The armory is open for walking at 7:30 a.m. each weekday.
