Monroe City tabs Kirby as new football coach

MONROE CITY, Mo. (WGEM) -- Monroe City didn't have go very far to find its new football coach.

In fact, all they had to do was look internally for the right candidate.

Monroe City athletic director Troy Patterson tells WGEM Sports assistant coach David Kirby was approved Wednesday night as the leader of the Panther football program.

Kirby spent the last two seasons on Tony DeGrave's staff working with the offense and linebackers.

Patterson called Kirby "a good fit" because he's already familiar with the system.

Kirby replaces DeGrave who resigned to become the new principal at Marion County.
