QHS Rifle Team awarded big donation

Many Quincy High School programs are funded by the school, but the rifle club isn't so it's on its own to raise money.

And Thursday night, the two-time state champs received a donation of almost $3,300 from the North Side Boat Club, the Quincy Quivering Clays and friends and family of Jacob Scranton. The money was in honor of Scranton, a former member of the Quincy Rifle Team who died last year in a motorcycle crash.  Coach James Holtman says this money means a lot to his team.

"Oh this is tremendous. This is a boost in the arm for us. And in Jacob's memory we couldn't have asked for any more," he said.

After the presentation, the team awarded Holtman a trophy for his commitment to the team as a volunteer coach.  The team will use the money to compete at nationals this summer.
