Senior Driven: Veterans pave way for Hannibal's soccer success

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -- With each goal scored the Hannibal girls soccer team continues to add to its already historic season.
Thanks to senior leadership the Lady Pirates have emerged as a force to be reckon with.

The record says it all.
A single season program record 18 wins and only six losses, a whopping eight win improvement from last year's mediocre 10-15 record.
The class of 2013 has been a driving force behind this year's success.

"It's new," senior Alex Nichols said of the historical campaign. "We've never had something like this.  It felt good to be on a good team."
Head coach Eric Hill raves about his group's camaraderie.
"They've stuck with it through hard work, dedication, and it's paid off," Hill explained.
"And it's really enjoyable to see them enjoying the success that they've had this year because they've had some trying years."

Overcoming the odds has allowed the seniors to create a positive atmosphere and make winning the norm.

"The team bonding is really good. We're all friends and we don't have fights," senior Katie Bowman indicated.

"I'm glad that I was here for it," senior Theresa Sheffer said.
"I got to experience it with the team I had, improving, watching us take steps, improving, improving, improving."

After a season of improvement, a winning record, and a North Central Missouri Conference title, the five seniors feel they've left their mark.

"It's bittersweet," senior Carli Watson indicated.
"Excited to start a new chapter in your life, but sad because we've all played soccer together for a long time."
Senior Katherine Allen says this year's squad will never be forgotten.

"I want to be remembered as the first team that picks the soccer program up, and gets it more competitive and starts the winning years."
