The Quincy Dark River Derby Coalition kicked off its third season on Saturday night at Scotties Fun Spot.
QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- It's that time of the year again for roller derby, and the Dark River Derby Coalition began its third season on Saturday night with a win over the Confluence Crush.
The sport is growing rapidly around the country and is a new way for women to stay active, but for these players, roller derby is about more than just winning or losing.
"We do fundraiser's, we raise money for charities throughout the tri-states, and I think that it's amazing that we can give back to the community, while having fun at the same time," DRDC rookie Roseanne Scar told WGEM Sports.
"I mean, we're doing this for a reason. We're doing this to entertain the community, we're also doing it to give back to the community, and we're doing it as wellness for ourselves. "
All proceeds from last night's bout benefited Big Brothers Big Sisters.
