MONROE CITY, Mo. (WGEM) -- Monroe City senior standout track and field athlete Brendan Williams signed on the dotted line Monday morning to throw at Culver-Stockton next spring.

2013 has been a strong season for Williams, even though he's coming off  knee surgery.

While that injury was a step back at the time, he says it's something that has only made him stronger going forward.

"I feel like everybody else has had an advantage, because they've had another year to get up to par," Williams told WGEM Sports.

"I had to work harder to get to where I am now, and that helped me out as a person."

Williams hopes to expand his talent at the next level, going beyond just the shot put and discus events that he has had success with in high school.

"I just need to keep working on my technique," Williams expressed.

"I want to try some of the throws we don't do in high school like hammer and weight throw."

Williams advanced to the state meet over the weekend following a second place finish in the discus and third in the shot put at the Class 2 Boonville Sectional.
