Dozens of people gathered at the Eagles Club in Quincy for a conceal carry class - but they won't be able to use their permits in the Land of Lincoln.
The class was actually a "Utah" conceal carry course.
Organizers say this course is used because the permit is valid in thirty four states, including surrounding states like Missouri and Iowa.
Mike Schuttler says it's a one-night only instruction class, but that's not how it will be once conceal carry is legal in Illinois. "With Utah, it's the easiest one to get. Utah it's a four hour class, it's all instructional, there's no shooting, and that's probably the bad thing. The part that Illinois will have will be both shooting and classroom," he said.
Schuttler says having such a widely-accepted gun permit can be a smart move for carriers who intend to travel a lot.
