Keokuk's underground infrastructure is also getting a much needed update.
The city is replacing some of the water mains along Grand Avenue between 4th and 15th streets.
Mayor Marion says they want to replace the aging water mains before Grand Avenue is paved as part of a multi-million dollar project.
"We won't be tearing up the street. If you go out there and look it's in the right of way, so that's one of the things that's a big asset to us because if you put in a new street and then someone has to dig it up it's terrible," said Marion.
Marion says many of the water mains are old cast iron and could have some lead surfaces, so they needed to replace them.
