(WGEM) - If you filled up your gas tank Thursday, you may have noticed the rising price at the pump and AAA says it's only going to get worse.
According to AAA, the average price of gas in Illinois was $3.50 a gallon one month ago.
Today it's at $3.99.
With many summer vacation plans already on the calendar, local drivers say the rising prices are putting a big strain on their budgets.
"This is my boyfriend's truck, so we're probably going to use my car instead, because I have a Honda and it doesn't take as much gas," Emily Cook said.
"We do have a few summer plans and we will probably go ahead with those, but we won't be able to do as many fun things because the money will be eaten up by the gas prices," Cyndy Wollbrink said.
AAA says the reason behind the increase is because Midwest refineries are now switching over to a summer blend of gasoline.
