Collision on Market Street puts one man in hospital

A collision between a bicycle and a pick-up truck sent one man to the hospital late Thursday afternoon.  The accident happened in the 1900 block of Market Street in Hannibal.

Witnesses say Luther Robinson was heading East on Market Street when the collision happened.  However, police have not finalized their investigation to determine if the truck ran into the cyclist or vice versa.

The accident happened on the south side of town.  Neighbors who live close to the intersection say they're not surprised someone was hurt because people aren't paying attention at this intersection.

"Like I said, we have kids crossing here.  My own grandson crosses here to go to school.  And you have to stand outside and cross over and everything because the cars come zooming down. And when they do decide to stop, they start sliding.  You know it's a dangerous place," said Candance Whittaker, who witnessed the accident.

Robinson was taken to the hospital, but his condition is unknown.  This accident happened less than 24 hours after several cyclists in Hannibal took park in a Ride of Silence to bring attention to people who've been killed or injured while bike riding.
