Preservation Meeting focused on saving historic buildings

Posted:
QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

There's a push to save some other historic buildings in Quincy.  The Quincy Preservation committee invited a keynote speaker to emphasize how important it is to preserve historic buildings.  Recently, the Newcomb hotel was put on the top 10 most endangered historic places list by Landmarks Illinois, and President Bonnie McDonald said destroying these buildings is a mistake.

"They're very important to the health of the downtown.  Not only providing the economic stability for the downtown to thrive by allowing small businesses to open there but they also provide much needed jobs," McDonald said.

McDonald said Quincy has one of the highest density of historic buildings throughout Illinois.
