What can you do with a half-million bottle caps? Give them back to the community!
Today was redemption day for the 3rd annual Community Caps Programs run by Refreshment Services Pepsi. The collection started at local businesses on February 1st.
For each yellow Pepsi bottle cap that was collected, five cents is donated back to local organizations. Last year, more than 15-thousand dollars was raised but organizers say they'll top that this year.
"We just appreciate the public and the community support for this program. You know, there's a lot of people that are going to benefit over this program. And a lot of money is going to get awarded back into the community," said Chris Kirn, the General Manager of Refreshment Services Pepsi.
Great River Honor Flight is one of the organizations that benefit from Community Caps.
As of last count, Pepsi collected 568-thousand caps and more are expected to come in this weekend.
