Be wary of post-storm repair scams, officials say

If your house needs repairs from storm damage, Hannibal city officials are warning resident to be on look out for scams.

Officials say before hiring a tree removal company or home repair contractor you need to make sure they are a legitimate business.

City Manager Jeff LaGarce says the business should be licensed by the city and you need to get everything in writing.

"We're encouraging people when they get a quote to get the quote in writing or a signed contract," LaGarce said. "A written quote is good enough because it is a lot easier to prosecute fraud if we have a written quote that a resident was given."

LaGarce says if you are questioning whether or not a business is legit you should contact city hall.
