MoDOT: Flash flooding a concern in coming days

Posted:
HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -

Several area roads remain closed due to flash flooding and water could overtake more roads in the coming days.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is warning drivers that if they see flooded roads to should turn around and to not drive through water.

You are then urged to report that flooding by calling 1 (888) ASK-MODOT.  Officials say it doesn't take a lot of water to create a dangerous situation.

"Just a few inches. Depending on how fast the water is moving. It could take a car and sweep it right off the road, so it's very dangerous to drive into moving water," said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner.
