A local Macomb teen suffering from a debilitating disease got to meet one of her idols who happens to be one of HGTV's most popular TV hosts.
16-year-old Blaire Lotz was diagnosed with Legg Calve Perthes disease, a degenerative hip disease when she was only 9 years old.
Blaire has had more than 10 surgeries because of it, including a total hip replacement.
During her multiple hospital stays she became a huge fan of David Bromstad, from HGTV's "Design Star."
And as a special gift from her family, Blaire got to spend a day on set with Bromstad while at a doctor's appointment in Florida back in March.
"It was overwhelming, like we just sat back and watched it was cool to just see how it goes behind the scenes. He was very over the top and really friendly, you could talk to him easily, it was great," said Lotz.
WGEM talked with David Bromstad via Skype Thursday.
He says getting to meet Blair was a special moment, and now he has a message for Blaire and anyone else who might be going through a difficult time.
"The things that you go through will shape you for the rest of your life, and I really love Blaire's attitude because she came in and she was smiling, she's gone through so much, in her very short life but she came in smiling, she had a great positive attitude, and I think that is key," said Bromstad.
When Bromstad heard Blair caught on to his show while watching from a hospital bed he says he was deeply touched, and says that's a big reason why he does his show, to brighten people's days.
