CANTON, Mo. (WGEM) -- It has been a busy summer on the campus of Culver-Stockton where renovations and new construction to the schools athletic facilities have been a top priority.

The first project on the hill, now complete, was a brand new gym floor at Charles Fieldhouse.

"We were at the point where our floor was about seven or eight years old and we needed to resurface it, repaint it, and get our new logos on it," C-SC Athletic Director Greg McVey told WGEM Sports.

"We decided to make an investment in doing it and it's turned out really well."

The work doesn't stop there.

With the aid of a donation from longtime trustee Charlotte Himsl, the school broke ground on a new softball complex on Monday morning.

Himsl Field, located directly north of Charles Fieldhouse in the heart of campus, will be complete later this summer.

"It was good for us to be able to get the fundraising done to bring our softball program back on campus," said McVey.

"It's in a great spot where kids can come out from class and professors can come from their offices down to a great venue and see them play."

2012-2013 was a landmark school year in Wildcat athletics.

A new logo was unveiled prior to the fall season, the men's basketball program went on a record setting run in the NAIA Tournament, topped off with the facility upgrades happening now.

With the momentum going forward McVey says the future on the hill continues to look up.

"Our student-athletes are excited, our parents are excited, the community is excited, and we feel like our best days are ahead of us at this point."
