Local Boy Scouts give back to veterans

MT. STERLING, Ill. (WGEM) -- A group of local Boy Scouts are serving their community by giving back to our veterans.

Pack 11 in Mt. Sterling donated a whopping $3600 to the Great River Honor Flight.  The boys recently held a pulled pork dinner and silent auction that raised $3500 and a late donation added another 100 to their total.  Scout leader Chad Kunkel says this effort taught the boys a lot.

"These boys learned what it is to give back to the Honor Flight veterans who served so graciously for us so we could be free. They know what it is for these veterans to go see their memorials in Washington, D.C. and get to be honored, which is what this is all about."

The next Great River Honor Flight is coming up on Thursday, June 20th.
