HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) --  Friday marked a rare night on the gridiron in June where Hannibal and Palmyra got to hit the field and scrimmage against each other, along with Kirksville and Staley High School at Porter Stadium.

Former Palmyra and Culver-Stockton coach Fred Bouchard, one of the most successful coaches in Missouri high school football, brought his Staley squad to America's Hometown.

Bouchard says the tri-states will always feel like home.

"I just remember the wonderful people in the Palmyra community because that was home for 10 years, and Culver-Stockton where I went to college and used to coach, just those two places combined," Bouchard explained.

"Those were really some fond memories with some wonderful people and people you got to work with every day whether they were students or staff members."

Hannibal head coach Mark St. Clair and Bouchard have been long time friends and St. Clair says the two have been trying to find a way to meet on the gridiron for some time.

"Coach Bouchard and I have talked for a couple years about doing this and we got him to come over here," St. Clair told WGEM Sports.

"We've been friends for a long time, and he runs a class program over there and it's just an opportunity to get a good school over here."

Most of the coaches at Friday's scrimmage agreed that events like this throughout the summer give them a feel for position battles heading into the fall.

More importantly, it also gives new faces on the field along with returning starters a chance to build some early chemistry with the added benefit of playing against outside opponents.
