Hannibal Holds First Flag Day Event

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -

Hannibal held its first Flag Day and veteran ceremony in honor of all those who served.

The elks lodge held the presenting of the flag along with the pledge of allegiance and a prayer. Veterans spoke during the event including Klaus Stendebach, a veteran of the U.S. military who was born in Germany during Hitler's reign. Flag day means one thing to Stendebach.

"It's the freedom, that people fought for you as I said in my poem. It makes you feel free. That is what this country stood for and that is what the flag stands for."

The ceremony was followed by a pulled pork luncheon for the veterans courtesy of the Elks Lodge.
