A multi-million dollar construction project broke ground in Fort Madison Thursday, and officials hope it will bring in more tourists and money.
A four million dollar sports complex is being built across the street from the middle school on 48th street.
The complex will have three fields that can be used for soccer or football as well as three fields for softball or baseball.
Officials say it will be a major boost to the local economy.
"What we're hoping is that is will help create opportunities for us to showcase Fort Madison. It will bring in some tourism dollars in regard to hosting some tournaments, so hopefully fill some of the hotels," said complex chairman Marty Dean.
The project is set to be completed by June 2014.
