"Douglas Chautauqua" takes place in Quincy

The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County stepped back into time with "U.S. Senator Stephen A. Douglas and Friends".

The "Douglas Chautauqua", an evening of learning and entertainment, was staged on the lawn of the John Wood Mansion.

Warren Speckhart, who portrayed Governor John Wood, says this was very important for Quincy because it refreshes people's minds about all the history that has taken place in Quincy.

"We've had a lot of important politicians, dignitaries have visited Quincy through the year. And back in the 1800's, during that time of the Civil War, Quincy was extremely important," said Speckhart.

Speckhart also says he hopes by doing events like this...more people will want to learn about the town's large role in history.
