Bayview lighting project delayed

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Lighting Quincy's Bayview Bridge is a project that's been in the works for years, and it might take another year to make it a reality.

Back in October, the city council agreed to hire Klingner and Associates to do the engineering work.

The plan is for dozens of LED lights to illuminate the bridge from dusk till dawn, with the colors changing for holidays and special events.

Mayor Kyle Moore says there are still several steps left in the process.

"With doing the planning and designing right now, that probably won't get done for a few months, then we're looking at IDOT approval, so I'd imagine we're looking at construction starting next year," said Mayor Moore. "So hopefully, July 4th of next year we'd be able to enjoy it with the fireworks."

IDOT is providing a $500,000 transportation grant and community donations will help cover the rest of the cost.
