MoDOT installing sensors to track driving patterns

What are the most traveled roads in Northeast Missouri? That's what Missouri Department of Transportation officials are trying to figure out to help serve the area better.

Crews were installing in-road sensors Tuesday to collect traffic data on U.S. 61 near Missouri 16 by Canton. MoDOT officials say they can use the data to plan future road projects.

"We use the volume data from areas like this, and areas where we set up the counter every year, to determine where the highest volume areas are in the district and across the state to determine where are needs are and where we need to do the work," said Brian Untiednt, Traffic Study Specialist for MoDOT.

MoDOT crews will be finishing up the project Wednesday, so drivers are advised to use caution when driving through the area.
