Local locks forced to close due to rising river levels

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) --  The rising river levels on the Mississippi will once again bring barge traffic to a halt.

Over the next week, the Army Corps of Engineers will close three area locks as water overtakes the gates.  The closures will start with lock 20 at Canton on Sunday.  Then lock 22 at Saverton will close on Monday.  Lock 21 in Quincy will then close on Tuesday.  Recreational boaters are also advised to use extreme caution.
