Busy year for Hannibal flood gates

Hannibal's flood gates are going in first thing tomorrow morning...that will be the third time since April.  Emergency Management Director John Hark expects the river to crest at 23 feet.  The gates just came out about a week ago, but Hark said he doesn't like leaving them in when he doesn't have to because of the impact it has on businesses and tourists.  If you think putting the gates in three times sounds like a lot, Hark said one year, he had to install them five times.  He admits, he's never seen the river like this.

"It's just been very very unreal. It's been an unreal year and it's been a very wet and moist year to the North of us so that's what makes the difference," he said.

After this next round of putting the gates in and taking them out, it will have cost the city about $9,000.
