Firework sales booming before 4th of July

We're still a few days away from the fourth of July, but firework businesses are already seeing an increase in sales from a year ago.

As Derrick Baymiller takes his family out to buy fireworks, he says it's incredible how much difference a year makes.
"Well last year with the drought, we bought absolutely none.  There was no place in town where we could go. We couldn't go to our lake.  Any place within a 20 mile radius, we couldn't even go to shoot fireworks with my kids," Baymiller said.
Fireworks Superstore Owner Tom Marx agrees.  He along with many other businesses have reaped the benefits from this year's good weather.

"Sales have been substantially higher this year due to the fact that the weather has been moderate. We've had a significant amount of rain and people feel safer firing them off," he said.
Manager Jeremiah Compton has also seen more people shopping for fireworks in his tent, but he expects an even bigger crowd as the 4th comes closer.
"I think there will be a rush on fireworks here and I think we'll get busy over the next four to five days and as any year goes, the fourth is always the busiest day," he said.

While aerial have been some of the best selling items at other stores Compton says his best are these little snappers, but he says regardless of what you get, to be careful when setting them off.

"Just use them how there supposed to be used. Don't tear them apart don't misuse them or mishandle them," Compton said .
According to Marx, Missouri residents can buy fireworks until July 10th.  In Iowa and Illinois, it is illegal to set off fireworks without special training.  If you are unsure of city and county laws, contact your local authorities.
