New sidewalks on North 12th Street

New sidewalks are coming to north 12th street in Quincy.

At Monday night's city council meeting, Aldermen approved spending more than 495-thousand dollars on new sidewalks. They will run from near the Cedar Creek bridge and go up to the Ayerco gas station.

Interim city engineer Marty Wagner says right now - there's a lot of traffic, and walkers are forced to walk on the side of the road.

The Quincy Park District will be contributing 75-thousand dollars to this project. Wagner says that's because of the connection to the nearby trail. "Allow people that use the linear park on Cedar Creek to also travel up 12th Street, and it doesn't get them quite up to Kochs Lane, but the intent is to eventually get the last section - about a block worth of sidewalks, between where we're ending it and the sidewalk on Kochs lane," he said.

Work on the sidewalks will begin in the next couple of weeks.
