Hancock County Fourth of July events continue in Carthage


The Hancock County Fourth of July events continue in Carthage throughout the weekend.

Friday's events include a community picnic from 5-7 p.m. on the south side of the square. Hot dogs, chips, drinks, and homemade desserts will be available. The band "Fountain of Youth", from Kelly Logan's Studio will perform on the south side of the square.

Saturday's schedule begins at 9 a.m. with a Ping Pong Ball Blast, along with the "Open Market Vendor Blender" on the square. The children's parade begins at 10 a.m.

The First Baptist Church of Carthage is hosting a cook out from 11:00 a.m.-1 p.m. and the Hancock County Courthouse will be open for tours from 11 a.m.-noon.

The Adult Street Dance featuring Devon Clemons Band with Gracia Harrison is Saturday evening at 7 p.m.-midnight. The dance is located on Main Street in front of the First State Bank and the Wood Inn.

The festival conclude on Sunday with a performance by the Young Polyphonic Choir from France beginning at 2 p.m. at the Carl Sandburg College Auditorium. A reception for the choir and the community will be held immediately following the performance in the lobby of the auditorium.
