Fort Madison in need of host families for RAGBRAI bicycle race

Posted:
FORT MADISON, Ia. (WGEM) -

Over 20,000 people will be headed to Fort Madison at the end of the month for RAGBRAI, and the city is looking for residents to help house some of them for a night.

RAGBRAI is a weeklong bicycle ride across Iowa from July 21-27 that ends in Fort Madison this year.

Fort Madison city manager Byron Smith says there are many different options for housing people.

"They might camp in somebody's yard or request to stay in someone's house, so we have less of that than the towns in the middle, but there's still a number of people who want to stay the night the night after to get some rest."

To be a host family, call 1-800-IRIDEIA (474-3342).
