QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

You see competitions all over the United States and now Quincy started its own Hot Dog Eating Contest.

County Market sponsored the Chomping for Charity contest.  Teams had 8 minutes to eat as many hot-dogs as possible for a $400 prize for a team's charity.  Close to a dozen teams participated in the first year's event and committee member Brad Niemann says he was happy to see its popularity in the first year.

"Participation has been great. We really didn't know what to expect but it has exceeded my expectations and I know it's something we can build on for next year too, which is fantastic," Niemann said.

Eight different teams competed, meaning a total of $2,000 was raised for charity.
