Two people injured in Lee County crash

Two people are injured in a farm equipment accident in Lee County. It happened just after noon on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a tractor being driven by Stephen Smith of Montrose, Iowa, was pulling a hay baler and was heading south on Highway 61 north of Keokuk, when he was rear-ended by a tanker truck driven by Harry Dochterman of Donnelson, Iowa.
The Jackson Fire Department responded, and called in both Keokuk and Montrose because they needed multiple sets of "jaws of life" equipment.

Both drivers had to be cut from their vehicles, and medical helicopters were flown in. The two were airlifted - Smith to Iowa City in moderate condition, and Dochterman to Blessing Hospital in Quincy in serious condition.
The roadway was shut down as crews worked the scene.
