Firefighters respond to house fire in Fort Madison

A fire guts part of a home in Fort Madison.

It happened just after 3:30 in the 500 block of Avenue D. Firefighters say no one was home at the time, and when they arrived they found the 2nd floor fully involved.

Fire Chief Joey Herren says they're still looking into what exactly happened. "It's still under investigation, like I said, we've got an idea where it started, still not sure what started it. It was in the bedroom in the second floor," he said.

WGEM will bring you more details as they become available.
