Organizers know importance of quick clean-up after weekend festival

The clean-up project for downtown Hannibal was underway today as the National Tom Sawyer Days came to an end.  Organizers and volunteers started getting everything cleared out -  so the downtown area doesn't have to deal with the leftovers from the events.  YMEN'S president Joel Booth says he's seen a big rise in the amount of people coming to the area over the 4th of July, but he knows the importance of getting everything clean before the workweek starts.

"As soon as we can clean-up the streets as soon as we can open any municipal streets, the better.  That way the city officials and city employees can get in and start their post holiday cleanup. And as soon as we can get out of there way, they can begin their work, so it's very key for us to do our part," he said.

Booth says he's seeing more people come to the event who live within 100 miles than he's ever seen before.
