Three Missouri kennels on list of "Horrible Hundred" puppy mills

There's about 10,000 puppy mills in this country, and according to the Humane Society some of the worst offenders are here in the Tri-States.

Simply Puppies, just outside of Hannibal, has accumulated numerous Animal Welfare Act Violations by the USDA in recent years.

For example, in January of this year, owner Tina Carr was cited for having 22 puppies kept on a one-inch wire flooring.

When we went to asked for a comment today, a woman declined to comment and asked me to leave.

Amy Kientzle is the operation manager at the Quincy Humane Society and says there are places like this all over that have horrible conditions for the animals they are trying to sell.

"They have nothing but kennels and kennels of dogs and put them in small spots," said Kientzle.

We also tried attempted to get comments from the other two tri-state puppy mills on the Humane Society's list.

But, we were unsuccessful in contacting the Feldkamp's Kennel in Lewistown.

And, Rabbit Ridge Kennel in Edina only has a PO Box listed as an address and the phone had been disconnected.

"These puppy mills have had dogs that are killed or left out in the freezing or hot weather and they're dead or even having surgery done by people that aren't veterinarians," said Kientzle.

Kientzle says it's important for everyone to resist the urge to rescue puppies from these places.

"Then they see the dogs and may feel sorry for them because they're in such a bad place so they think they're going to rescue them, but they're just aiding these people to have another litter. So, they're not rescuing them at all," said Kientzle.
