Longtime utilities director to retire by end of year

The City of Quincy has launched a search for a new director of utilities after the current one announced his retirement.

Mayor Kyle Moore says David Kent will retire by the end of the year.

"(Kent) has served this community well for 40 years," Moore said. "I've been honored to work with him previously as an alderman and now as mayor."

Moore says he's hoping to have the position filled before Kent leaves so they can shadow him on the job. But Moore says no matter what, Kent will be difficult to replace.

"They will have big shoes to fill," Moore said. "I'm want someone who will have the same passion for the department as he has."
