Marion County Ambulance District purchases ATV

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -

The Marion County Ambulance District added another vehicle, but it's much smaller than an ambulance.

The district bought an ATV, which only cost $3,500.  It's equipped with radio, standard emergency equipment, and Chief John Nemes says officials can provide emergency life support if needed.  A major reason the district bought the ATV because of the major storm that hit the area on May 20th.

"We had limited access to patients due to fallen debris and things like that so we had to actually walk to reach several of the patients during that time frame so we felt it was time to step up our search for this type of vehicle," said Marion County Ambulance District Chief John Nemes.

Nemes said officials will be able to use the ATV during the Marion County fair and other large scale events to help provide a medical presence.
