Spoon River Community College officials will be conducting a feasibility study on raising funds for a multi-million dollar renovation to the Macomb campus.
President Curt Oldfield says the current campus is just too small. With more classrooms and more course offerings, more room is needed to keep up with the growing demand from students.
"We hear a lot from parents about the increased costs for education," Oldfield said. "So community college is a natural route to be able to be able to start the first two years and transfer on, but also for our career and technical programming to be able to help with the economic development in the Macomb area."
Officials hope to use the vacant space next to the Spoon River Community Outreach Center to fix the problem.
Oldfield hopes to have a firm picked out to conduct the feasibility study by this spring and says renovations could start as early as 2016.
