QHS Rifle Team wraps up successful season

Some young sharpshooters are bringing some national attention back home to Quincy.

The team has had several successes this year - and they recently returned from the Civilian Marksmanship National Championships in Aniston, Alabama - where they placed 3rd in the Scholastic Division with a score of 2300 out of a possible 2400.

At every competition, team members must shoot 60 different times - aiming for a 10, or a bull's eye. They can do it from various positions - including prone, or laying down, kneeling, or standing.

Team members say they've had a very successful season, and this is a pretty tough sport! "It's really a mental sport. I mean, any person of any physical makeup can do it, it's just having the right mindset and being able to calm yourself down and concentrate really hard for the two hours it takes to shoot the match," says Susan Leimbach.

The rifle team continues to practice, and their first tournament for next year's season is at Montgomery Bell Academy in Tennessee  this October.
