GULLANE, Scotland. (WGEM) -- The bad news is Luke Guthrie missed his second consecutive major championship cut.
The good news is Guthrie is only 23 years old and will likely have plenty of more opportunities on golf's most grand stage.
The Quincy native shot a 9-over par 80 during Friday's second round of The Open Championship to card a two round total of 158 (+16).
Guthrie's day started with a bogey on the troublesome par-4 first hole. His birdie at the par-5 ninth hole resulted in a 5-over 41 on the front nine.
Guthrie followed that with a 4-over 39 on the back nine which included birdie on the par-3 13th hole.
He missed the cut by eight strokes.
Miguel Angel Jimenez (-3) has the lead heading into the weekend with 18 players only four shots or less off the pace.
