Lee County officials hope to receive road grant for J40

Officials in Lee County are hoping to add improvements to J40 between Fort Madison and West Point with a grant from the state.

The grant would be for up to $500,000 through the Iowa Department of Transportation's Traffic Safety Improvement Program.

The project would add paved shoulders and rumble strips to alert drivers leaving the road.

Officials say they won't find out if they receive the grant until the end of this year, and construction wouldn't start until at least 2015.
