Vacant home east of Palmyra burns to the ground

The Palmyra Fire Department battled a fire that destroyed a vacant house in rural Marion County Thursday night.

They were called to the scene on County Road 339 east of Palmyra around 8:30 p.m.

The home was fully engulfed by the time firefighters got there, and it eventually burned to the ground.

Neighbors say the home has been abandoned since 2008.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
