Dozens of pilots take part in Parafest

Fowler, IL (WGEM) -- A unique event near Fowler is bringing in dozens of pilots from across the country this weekend, but they aren't flying planes.

Para-fest is an event that involves powered paragliders and powered parachutes. 95 pilots are in town, along with about 200 family and friends.

Organizers say paragliding is popular on the east and west coast, but now it's starting to catch on in the Midwest.

"A lot of folks aren't familiar with the aircraft. We get referred to a lot as, you know, air boat with a parachute on it or a go-cart motor. They're a lot more advance than that, they're a lot more intricate. There's a lot of training involved," said Darin Logue, the event coordinator.

Darin Logue also says participants come from all over the country and they even have pilots from overseas.
