NWS issues heat advisory, several schools dismiss early

It looks like a hot week ahead for the Tri-States. Temperatures are expected to stay in the 90's with heat indices hitting triple digits.

The heat wave is forcing many local schools to dismiss early.

Monday:

  • Brown Co. Schools: No PM PreK
  • Camp Point Schools Unit 3: Dismiss at 1 p.m., no afternoon PreK
  • Griggsville-Perry Schools: No PM PreK
  • Liberty Schools: Dismiss 2 Hours Early
  • Nauvoo-Colusa Schools: Middle school dismiss at 12:30 p.m., grade school at 12:45 p.m.
  • Payson Schools: Dismiss at 1 p.m.
  • Pikeland-Pittsfield: Dismiss at 1 p.m.
  • Pleasant Hill: Dismiss at 1 p.m.
  • Quincy Christian: PreK-6th Grade dismiss at Noon, 7th-12th Grades dismiss at 1 p.m.
  • Southeastern School District 337: Dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
  • St. Peter & St. Paul-Nauvoo: Dismiss at 1 p.m.
  • Warsaw: Dismiss at 1 p.m., no PreK
  • West Prairie CUSD 103: Dismiss at 1 p.m.
  • Western CUSD 12: Dismiss at 1 p.m., no afternoon PreK
  • Hannibal High School: Dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
  • Hannibal Junior High School: Dismiss at 12:55 p.m.
  • Ft. Madison Public,Trinity: Dismiss at 1:00 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for several counties including Clark and Scotland in Missouri, Lee County in Iowa, and Hancock and McDonough County in Illinois.

Heat and high humidity are expected from noon Monday through 10 p.m. Tuesday. The weather service advises staying indoors when possible and drinking plenty of water to avoid heat-related illnesses. Checking on elderly relatives and neighbors is also a good idea.

For people working outside, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
