It looks like a hot week ahead for the Tri-States. Temperatures are expected to stay in the 90's with heat indices hitting triple digits.
The heat wave is forcing many local schools to dismiss early.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for several counties including Clark and Scotland in Missouri, Lee County in Iowa, and Hancock and McDonough County in Illinois.
Heat and high humidity are expected from noon Monday through 10 p.m. Tuesday. The weather service advises staying indoors when possible and drinking plenty of water to avoid heat-related illnesses. Checking on elderly relatives and neighbors is also a good idea.
For people working outside, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
