Local food pantries needing help to keep up with demand
QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -
It's a continuing struggle for food pantries all over the Tri-States and now they're asking for your help.
Horizon's Social Services Director Sarah Stephens says the food pantry has seen an increase of 50% in just one year. She said that's putting even more strain on what the pantry can provide each person needing assistance.
"As quickly as we get food in, it goes out. We'll feel really good that the shelves will be stocked and feel like today will be a good day and then after our four hours and we shut the doors, the shelves are empty again. So it's a continuing cycle of stocking the shelves and watching it go out the door," she said.
Stephens said Horizon has an open pantry every week on Monday.
